How Port Deposit Murder Suspect Was Linked to 10-Year-Old

Details are emerging about Richard Madden, accused of murdering Kami Ring.

Police said that biological evidence linked Richard Madden of Port Deposit to the rape and murder of 10-year-old Kami Ring.

When Ring's body was found Monday evening, she was partially naked with semen on her that matched Madden's, ABC 2 News reported. She was wearing a tank-top and had a shoestring between her legs, according to the report. Madden reportedly had a pair of gray tennis shoes with no shoestring at the house.

Madden also had scratches he could not explain on his chest, WJZ reported.

Ring's body was discovered in a field 60 yards from the Waibel Road home where she, Madden and his parents—whom she considered her grandparents—had been staying, according to Maryland State Police.

The cause of her death was blunt force trauma and asphyxiation, police said. She had marks from being bound and a cut on her neck, CecilDaily.com reported.

Police said that Ring was not biologically related to Madden.

According to the Daily Mail, Ring asked her parents if she could stay for the week at the home of her "grandparents," Walter and Cynthia Clark, on Sunday. Madden was Walter Clark's stepson, according to CecilDaily.com.

Ring lived in Charlestown and had just finished fourth grade at Charlestown Elementary. She was reported missing Monday morning, after she had not been seen by her grandparents since Sunday night.

Madden participated in a search for the missing girl on Monday and physically steered a neighbor away from the location where she was found, according to ABC 2 News.

Before he was taken into custody on drug charges and later charged in Ring's murder, Madden posted on Facebook that he was concerned about the missing girl. On Monday, he wrote: "My neice kami want missing some time in the night or morning... so pleas if i have seen or heard anything please let me know ASAP."

According to The Washington Post, Madden is being held without bond at the Cecil County Detention Center.
