Drug Case Against Kami Ring Rape Suspect Dropped

Richard Madden Jr. is accused of raping and murdering Kami Ring, 10. He no longer faces drug-related charges.

Drug charges against the man accused of raping and murdering a 10-year-old girl last month have been dropped, according to CecilDaily.com.

Richard Eugene Madden Jr., 28, faced drug charges after authorities found drugs and paraphernalia in Madden's room within the home where Kami Ring went missing between June 9 and June 10. Ring was found dead on June 10, not far from the home.

Madden has since been charged with raping and killing Ring, who considered Madden's parents to be her grandparents.

Madden was slated to face drug charges on Friday, but Cecil County State’s Attorney Ellis Rollins III opted not to pursue the case, CecilDaily.com reported. Rollins told the publication, "We’re looking at more serious charges."

Madden is facing life in prison without parole if he is found guilty of raping and murdering Ring. The Associated Press reported a court date has yet to be determined, but that jury selection is underway.
