Hollywood Casino Grant Funding Available

Cecil County has put out a request for proposals for FY 2014.

Cecil County Executive Tari Moore announced this week that the county is accepting applications for local community grants until May 31.

The grants come from money generated by Hollywood Casino in Perryville.

In 2008, when the state of Maryland allowed for video lottery terminals (slot machines), it stipulated that 5.5 percent of their revenues should support improvements in the surrounding community.

Nonprofit and not-for-profit organizations as well as state, county and municipal government agencies are eligible for the grants, according to a press release from Cecil County.

Grant applicants must spell out how the funding will serve the community's needs in one of these areas: public safety, economic/community development, infrastructure, sanitation and prevention/education/training.

The maximum grant per organization is $50,000, with the total amount that Hollywood Casino will disburse contingent upon its revenue.

The deadline for applications is the close of business on May 31. See the grant application here, courtesy of the Cecil County government.
