State Trooper Injured in Perryville Crash Friday Morning

The crash was reported just before 6 a.m. Friday on MD Route 222 near Interstate 95.

A state trooper was taken to the hospital and a driver cited after a crash in Perryville Friday morning, according to police.

At 5:51 a.m. Friday, a red Dodge Neon was traveling southbound on MD Route 222 and failed to yield right of way to a trooper traveling norhtbound, Cpl. Mitchell Nuzzo of the Maryland State Police North East Barrack said.

The Neon "made a left turn right in front of the trooper who was trying to get on the northbound ramp" to Interstate 95, Nuzzo said.

The trooper was transported to Upper Chesapeake with non-life-threatening injuries including lacerations and bruises, according to Nuzzo.

The driver of the Neon was cited, Nuzzo said, and MD Route 222 and the exit ramp to Interstate 95 northbound were closed temporarily.
