The Elm Street burglary was reported on April 20, Perryville police said.

Two Perryville residents have been charged in a home burglary reported April 20, Perryville Chief of Police Charles V. Wernz said Tuesday.

Copper pipes, antique jewelry and other items of sentimental value were reported stolen from a residence on the 300 block of Elm Street at 10:44 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, according to Wernz.

After investigation, officers obtained a search and seizure warrant for a residence on the 400 block of Susquehanna Avenue and two arrest warrants for the suspects, according to the Perryville Police Department.

The two suspects, a 32-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman whom Nitz said lived on the 400 block of Susquehanna Avenue, have been charged with first-, third- and fourth-degree burglary; theft less than $1,000; theft between $1,000 and $10,000; malicious destruction of property; and trespassing.

The house on Elm Street had been posted with no trespassing signs, according to Nitz.

"The former residents had passed away," Nitz said, adding that surviving family members had been in and out of the home getting the estate in order.

"The suspects saw it as a crime of opportunity," Nitz said.

The suspects were booked at the Cecil County Detention Center on April 29, with bail set at $20,000.
